The Science Behind Weightlifting


I just graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a Biology degree in a pre-Physician Assistant Program. I will be attending the UW-Madison Physician Assistant Program this Summer. I have been fairly serious into weightlifting and nutritional management since I was 15. My courses of study have given me a scientific look into the body processes associated with the science of weightlifting. True development in the sport involves experience coupled with a thorough understanding of how your body works.

I have been working out since I was 15, which has been about 7 years. During that time, I learned as much as I could about the science of weightlifting. I was always looking into different exercise programs and trying new things to see what works the best. My education at UW-Madison has taught me the biological aspect of weightlifting. Everything from the breakdown of food, to the incorporation of nutrients into the body, how the body works, what goes wrong, injury prevention, proper techniques, etc. Anyone that tells you they have the secret to building muscle is lying. Everyone’s body is different and requires a careful monitoring of what works and what doesn’t. Along with an understanding of how things work, your program must be just that, your own. I want to provide you with ideas that usually work and continue to help you as you grow to provide new information and adjustments to your routine. A great body is definitely not build overnight.
